COPD, Medical Marijuana, and 37th floor views of Philadelphia, oh my!

The March meeting of the Delaware Valley Society of Health-System Pharmacists was a night filled with learning and great food. The meeting took place at R2L, featuring amazing views of the city. The first portion of the night was a talk on reducing exacerbation risk early in COPD.

Next, Linda Huang, PharmD, a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Resident at the Temple University Hospital gave a continuing education presentation titled “Clearing the Weeds: An Introduction to Medical Marijuana.” Dr. Huang went over the proposed physiological role of medical marijuana on the different areas of the body, the proposed disease relevance, drug metabolism pathways, and molecular components of marijuana. Other topics discussed included the various routes of administration and forms available, the process a patient would go through to obtain medical marijuana, legal status, and pharmacy involvement.

Overall, it was a very informative night and the audience came away with a great deal of new knowledge. Everyone is looking forward to the next dinner in April, the 2019 Student CE Presentation and Night with Industry.
