Meet Your Board - Kimberly Mehta, PharmD, MPH, Western Chapter President

Kim Mehta is a Director of Medication Safety and Regulatory at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, PA. Kim’s pharmacy career began as a pharmacy intern at Walmart and for UPMC Presbyterian and Montefiore Hospital.  Kim graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Shippensburg University and Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.  Kim completed a 24-month PGY1/PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency at Allegheny Health Network while completing her Master of Public Health from University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. During this time she collaborated on a publication titled Pharmacist Addition to the Post-Emergency Department Visit Review of Discharge Antimicrobial Regimens. Throughout her residency, Kim developed a passion for Medication Safety and pharmacy related to Public Health and Community Service.  With that in mind she accepted a position as a medication safety manager at Winchester Medical Center, a part of the Valley Health System located in Virginia. In January of 2018, she returned to Pittsburgh to serve as a Director of Medication Safety and Regulatory for the Allegheny Health Network.

Kim’s professional interests include patient safety and quality, leadership and professional development, and pharmacy related to Public Health.  Kim is an active member of local, state and national pharmacy organizations.  She has collaborated with the Virginia Department of Health, Northwest Virginia Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, and other local organizations to increase the role and engagement of pharmacists and support public health and safety initiatives, such as emergency preparedness and the opioid epidemic. She has served on the ASHP Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners on the Small and Rural Hospital and Medication Safety Section Advisory Groups supporting initiatives such as a toolkit for USP<800> and care for the caregiver programs.  She has served on the VSHP Board as a regional president-elect.  Kim is grateful for the opportunity to support the revitalization of the Western Chapter of PSHP and is looking forward to being an active member of PSHP.
