On Thursday, January 24th, the members of MEPSHP gathered at Blue Grillhouse in Bethlehem to hear two great presentations. Our meeting was sponsored by Incyte Pharmaceutical Corporation. Dr. Anthony Botti, from Saint Barnabas Medical Center, described the Clinical Characteristics of Advanced Polycythemia Vera. It was very interesting to hear about this rare disease state where patients have an elevated hematocrit. Following this non-branded promotional presentation, MEPSHP was honored to have Dr. Maria Foy, from Abington Hospital, provide another pain CE for us. She spoke to us about how to Treat Patients with Acute Pain who are receiving Buprenorphine. She presented a case with different scenarios, including the use of buprenorphine in pregnancy. Maria Foy’s presentations on various aspects of pain are always very insightful, and we hope to have her back for more CE’s in the future.

Our March CE will be on International Medication Safety. It will be presented by ISMP’s Christina Michalek and her Fellow, Barbara. Last year, we had a wonderful presentation on international safety by the Fellows of ISMP, and we are excited to learn other aspects of international safety this year as well. Stay tuned for the announcement sometime next week.

We are still planning our April meeting, and our May meeting will be our annual Night of the Residents. Our May meeting is always well attended as we get to hear from the pharmacy residents in the Lehigh Valley Area.
