Our last meeting was held in October 11th at Edge Restaurant in Allentown. There was a one hour promotional presentation by Alex Bartlett at Stericycle followed by a one-hour Safety CE on Counterfeit Drugs in America. The educational presentation was presented by Shabbir Imber Safdar, who is the Executive Director of The Partnership for Safe Medicines. He came all the way from San Francisco, CA to present his talk. The educational presentation was quite an eye opener. We learned about how counterfeit drugs make it into our pharmaceutical supply chain, and about the number of deaths caused by these counterfeit drugs laced with significant quantities of fentanyl. There were over 30 pharmacists and technicians in attendance, and everyone enjoyed the CE and the dinner at Edge.

Our first meeting of the new year is on Thursday, January 24th at Blue Grillhouse in Bethlehem, PA. The promotional presentation will be on the Clinical Characteristics of Advanced Polycythemia Vera. The featured speaker will be Dr. Anthony Botti from Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. We are also delighted to have a one hour pain CE, featuring Dr. Maria Foy. She is the Pharmacy Care Coordinator, specializing in Palliative Care at Abington – Jefferson. She will be discussing the Treatment of Acute pain in patients receiving Buprenorphine. Maria has provided several CE’s for MEPSHP on various aspects of pain management, and we are all looking forward to this topic on Buprenorphine.

In our February newsletter, I will discuss in more detail about our January meeting, and I will give updates on the upcoming meetings for the Spring and Fall. Stay Tuned. Looking forward to a wonderful year.
