nw_138010.jpgOn Thursday, November 15, 2018, The Northwest Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists (NWPSHP) had their biannual CE event.  This season, the group, led by Paul Green (President) and Angela Schick (Secretary / Treasurer), held a dinner at Mi Scuzi restaurant in Erie, PA.  There were 28 pharmacists and technicians in attendance most of whom are PSHP members.  Brad Cooper, PSHP Membership Chair, addressed the group briefly to provide an update on state-wide membership and the benefits of joining PSHP.  Paul Green provided a brief update on the recent PSHP Annual Assembly and 50th Anniversary Gala.
The first CE session was presented by Olean General Hospital's PGY1 Pharmacy Resident, Maria Mintskovsky, Pharm.D.  She gave a great overview of the benefits of penicillin skin testing in hospitals and how it can be a benefit it can be to patients and health professionals especially antimicrobial stewardship efforts.  Elliot Marino, Pharm.D., a clinical / staff pharmacist at Olean General Hospital was the evening's other speaker. He gave an overview of the latest literature on the diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia with a focus on the new IDSA HAP/VAP guidelines.  The group plans to hold its next event in the spring hopefully in a location more central to their overall region of coverage in an attempt to engage with more potential members.
