Title: The CGRP Receptor Antagonists for the Prevention of Migraine Headache

 

Objectives for Pharmacists and Technicians:

 

1. Explain the pathophysiology of migraine and list the currently available therapeutic options for migraine prophylaxis.

 

2. Identify the mechanism of action for the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonists, as well as their role in migraine therapy.

 

3. Describe the available dosage forms for the CGRP receptor antagonists and list clinically relevant patient counseling points. 

 

4. Evaluate the literature supporting the efficacy of the CGRP receptor antagonists for the prevention of migraine headache, as well as their safety profile.

 

5. Given a patient case, choose the best therapy for the prevention of migraine headache.
